Duties:
Role:
A Consumer Loan Originator understands, communicates and works to achieve and follow the Credit Union's mission and member promise statements. Originates member consumer loans. Analyzes and approves/denies consumer loan requests based on lending policy and authority limits.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Takes and reviews applications for consumer loan business. Explains loan programs and advises members of loan options and requirements.
Analyzes member financial condition to include credit history, credit score, collateral, and other financial information to assess the degree of risk and the member’s ability to repay the loan. Makes decisions within loan approval authority or forwards the loan request to higher levels for decision.
Completes or directs completion of all loan documents. Ensures documentation is complete and accurate. Completes required reports and records. Meets with member to explain terms and conditions and close the loan.
Stays abreast of new types of loans, lending trends, and other financial services and products to better meet members' needs.
Participates in developing lending and deposit business for the Credit Union. Identifies opportunities to cross-sell new or additional services or products to members.
Follows current loans to ensure compliance with terms and coordinates with collections.
Authorizes release of collateral on existing loans, changes in loan terms, waivers of payments, and due date changes.
Attends and participates in meetings and committees as required.

Requirements:
Performance Measurements:
1. Achieve or exceed assigned loan volume (dollars and/or numbers).
2. Ensure loan decisions are made and relayed to appropriate parties within X hours/days.
3. Maintain a X-day delinquency rate at or below X% of loan portfolio.
4. Maintain a charge-off rate of no more than X% of loan portfolio
5. Sell assigned volume of loan insurance products.
6. Ensure loan decisions are in compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and lending regulations, policies, and procedures.
7. Troubleshoot and resolve member and internal inquiries in a timely and accurate manner.
8. Provide informed, professional, and accurate service and support to all members and associates.
Additional Desired Attributes:
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience One year to three years of similar or related experience.
Education (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.
Interpersonal Skills Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
Other Skills Thorough knowledge of principles and processes for providing member and personal services. This includes member needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of member satisfaction. Considers the relative costs and benefits of potential actions and chooses the most appropriate one. Talks to others to convey information effectively.
